( Figures 1 View Figure 1 , 3–5 View Figure 3 View Figure 4 View Figure 5 )

Material examined

Holotype. 1 male (IEBR-Myr 158H) Nghe An Prov., Pu Mat National Park, Chem waterfall, 430 m, 18.9715°N- 104.8008°E, 4–10 April 2011, coll. Anh D. Nguyen. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. 2 males, 3 females (IEBR-Myr 158P); same data as for holotype GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis

The species differs from its congener, V. spiralis Golovatch, 1984 , in the gonopod femorite being erect and cylindrically elongate; and the solenomere being almost completely sheathed by solenophore, and being only exposed at the tip.

Etymology

Named after its type locality, Pu Mat National Park .

Description

Size: length ca. 19.3–19.7 mm (male), 18.1–20.0 mm (female); width of midbody pro- and metazonae 1.3–1.4 mm (male), 1.7–1.8 mm (female) and 1.5–1.7 mm (male), 1.9–2.1 mm (female), respectively. Holotype length ca. 19.7 mm, width of midbody pro- and metazonae 1.3 mm and 1.5 mm, respectively.

Body uniformly darkish brown with a broad median yellowish area on metaterga. Sterna and legs brownish yellow.

Head slightly broader than collum in width ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (a)); clypeolabral region densely setose. Epicranial suture clearly distinct. Antennae long, reaching segment 4 if stretched posteriorly; antennomeres 2–4 slender while antennomeres 5–6 claviform; antennomeres 3> 4> 2 = 5> 6> 7> 1 in length; antennomere 7 with four sensory cones at tip.

Collum ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (a–b)) subequal to segment 2 in width, oval-shaped; surface shining and smooth, neither wrinkled nor granulated, with three rows of setae: 6 + 6 anterior, 2 + 2 intermediate and 6 + 6 posterior. Axial line distinct. Paraterga totally absent.

Body ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (a–f)) submoniliform, segment 4 <3 <2 = 5 − 17 in width, thereafter tapering towards telson. Prozonae and metazonae smooth and shining, neither granulated nor wrinkled. Metaterga 2–18 with a row of 2 + 2 setae near anterior margin. Transverse sulcus absent. Axial line distinctly present. Pleurosternal carinae present as a keel with a caudal denticle on segments 2–17. Waist between pro- and metazonae clearly broad, neither striolate nor beaded at bottom.

Paraterga ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (c–d)) totally absent on poreless segments, but very tiny on porebearing segments. Ozopores normal, lying inside white hallows on lateral side of segments 5, 7, 9–10, 12–13, 15–19.

Epiproct ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (f–g)) broadly truncated, dorsally inflattened. Tip with four spinnerets. Hypoproct trapeziform, with two well separated, distolateral, setiferous knobs ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (h)).

Sterna ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (e)) densely setose with four long sternal spines, each next to a coxa; posterior spines much more developed and longer than anterior ones. Cross impressions clearly distinct. Sternum 5 without modifications, but sternum 4 with two long, anteriorly curved, setiferous tubercles between coxae 3 ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (i)).

Legs ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 (c–d)) slender, ca. 2.0–2.2 times as long as midbody height. Prefemora strongly swollen ventrally. Femora without modifications. Tarsal brushes, if present, only on pre-gonopodal legs.

Gonopod simple ( Figures 4–5 View Figure 4 View Figure 5 ). Coxite about 1/3–1/2 femorite length; distovental part sparsely setose. Prefemorite densely setose, separated laterally from femorite by an oblique sulcus. Femorite (fe) erect, not curved, cylindrically elongate, without modifications, but with a distal small spine (ds). Postfemoral region consisting only of solenophore (sph) and solenomere (sl). Solenomere completely sheathed by solenophore, and only exposed at the tip. Solenophore strongly coiled, almost twice. Tip with a small denticle (sd) and a large pointed lobule (pl).

Remarks

The species was found in the Pu Mat National Park ( Vietnam) where the forests are best conserved.
