Holotype (male). Body length: 4.5 mm.

Integument brown; elytra slightly lighter; median region of frons, fore angles of pronotum and median region of scutellum, yellowish-brown; antennae, palpi and legs yellowish; antennomeres IV–XI with lateral rounded prominence clearer. Pronotum, brighter than elytra. General pubescence fine, long, very dense, yellowish-white and decumbent, covering partially integument, giving a silky appearance; pubescence of frons and pronotum: thicker, longer and bristle setae, inserted into sparse umbilicate punctation and finer and decumbent setae inserted in dense and fine punctation.

Frons ( Figs. 137, 143 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) convex, wide, roundly emarginate laterally; anterior margin raised, forming narrow ridge, prominent and rounded at middle; punctation fine and dense intermingled with umbilicate, coarse and moderately dense, more concentrated near base; secondary carina short. Antennae ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) reaching hind angles of pronotum; antennomeres II and III elongate, almost same size; slightly serrate from antennomeres IV–X, with lateral prominence rounded.

Pronotum ( Figs. 48 View FIGURES 47 – 62 , 134 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) slightly wider than long (length including hind angles), slightly narrowed and parallel at basal third; strongly and roundly convex from lateral margins, on anterior 2/3, declivous backwards between hind angles; punctation ( Fig. 139 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) umbilicate coarse, very dense, coarser near lateral margins, with fine punctation among coarse punctures; lateral margins slightly rounded; lateral carina short, present on basal third; hind angles moderately wide, backwardly directed with lateral carina fused with lateral carina of pronotum making carina wider in this area; each side of posterior margin with angular excavation. Hypomeron ( Figs. 49, 50 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) with hind angles wide and rounded and punctation very coarse (coarser than pronotum) and dense. Pronotosternal sutures almost straight, fine and opened anteriad forming a channel. Prosternum ( Fig. 141 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) with punctation moderately coarse and moderately dense, intercalated by fine punctation. Prosternal spine ( Fig. 141 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) short, compressed laterally, cuneiform, carinate laterally at procoxal cavity. Borders of mesosternal cavity ( Fig. 146 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) short, horizontal at base and vertical at mesosternal cavity level. Metasternum with inclined line, parallel internal margin of each mesocoxal cavity. Metacoxal plate ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) very wide, strongly narrowed at lateral half. Leg ( Figs. 142, 144 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ): tibia with two microspined tibial spurs; tarsomeres ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) simple; tarsomere I almost as long as II; tarsomere IV shorter than V; tarsal claws ( Figs. 142, 145 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) with a sharpened tooth at midlength. Last ventrite of male ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 63 – 69 ) transverse, triangular with rounded apex. Scutellum ( Fig. 136 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) pentagonal, narrowed anteriorly. Elytral base as wide as pronotal base; humerus (stria 7) shortly carinate laterally at base making elytra parallel in this region; elytra slightly widened from apex of lateral carina and gradually narrowed from apical 3/5 to apex; apices narrowed and conjointly rounded; striae grooved and coarsely punctated; interstices flat.

Paratypes. Body length: 3.2–4.6 mm.

Integument brown of several tonalities; several specimens with fore angles of pronotum and/or median region of scutellum and/or humeral region of elytra yellowish-brown; sometimes whole elytra yellowish-brown. Antennae usually clearer than body; several specimens with antennae brownish or first antennomeres and/or basal region especially of basal antennomeres brownish.

Antennae ( Figs. 133, 138 View FIGURES 133 – 146 ) reaching hind angles of pronotum in male, slightly shorter in female. Labrum ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) transverse, semi-elliptical; coarsely and heterogeneously punctated, densely setose; setae of varied sizes, majority very long. Mandibles ( Figs.54–55 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) narrow, elongate; apex widened with three weak, rounded teeth; dorsal region raised at middle, with a rounded carina near mesal margin and setae of varied sizes near lateral margin; penicillum formed by fringe of long setae. Maxilla ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ): galea and lacinia brush-like; mediostipes almost rectangular with tiny setae near middle (represented by punctures); basistipes triangular with setae moderately long; cardo triangular with moderately long setae inserted at lateroexternal half; palpus setose; distal palpomere securiform. Labium ( Fig. 53 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ): pre-mentum membranous with three moderately long setae inserted in front of each basal palpomere; posmentum wider than long, glabrous, with anterior margin rounded; palpiger membranous, each with four setae; palpi with three palpomeres; distal palpomere securiform.

Male. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 65 View FIGURES 63 – 69 ) slightly longer than, narrowed to apex; apex prominent and rounded; short setae near margins at distal half. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 64 View FIGURES 63 – 69 ) membranous, transverse, strongly notched at middle forming a well developed lobe each side; setae moderately long near apex of each lobe. Sternite IX ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 63 – 69 ) elongate, rounded and widened near middle, constricted at distal third; apex triangular; short setae at apex. Tergite IX ( Fig. 67 View FIGURES 63 – 69 ) transverse, narrowed apicad; strongly notched at middle; lateral margins rounded; glabrous; tergite X elongate, narrower than tergite IX, with rounded apex; inserted at tergite IX apex. Aedeagus ( Figs. 68, 69 View FIGURES 63 – 69 ): basal piece wider than long. Parameres separated, almost twice median lobe length (excluding basal struts); narrowed laterally at extremities, wider at median 2/4; lateral margins rounded; apex spatuliform, wider ventrally with subapical dorsal and ventral setae of varied sizes. Median lobe very widened at base; apex narrowed and rounded.

Female. Tergite VIII ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) slightly wider than long, slightly narrowed apicad; apex rounded; setae of varied sizes at margins of distal third. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 59 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) triangular with setae of varied sizes near margins and short setae disposed in two longitudinal narrow bands near middle; spiculum gastrale about six times sternite length. Each coxite ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) with one short one-segmented stylus with two distal setae. Anterior most section of bursa copulatrix ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ) sac-like with two sclerotized toothed plates ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 47 – 62 ); extension of anterior most section elongate, coiled on distal half; glandular reservoir entering bursa copulatrix on ventral surface, near apex.

Etymology. The specific epithet is a derivative of Portuguese word “Nordeste” (= Northeast), referring to Brazilian region where the material was collected.

Remarks. H. nordestinus is easily recognized especially by pronotum very shiny, with silky appearance. The pronotum presents two kinds of setae and punctures intermingled: punctation umbilicate and coarse with thicker setae and punctation fine with fine setae. It is similar to H. acutipennis Candéze, 1860 (from Venezuela), but H. nordestinus is smaller and lighter brown and the elytral interstices are not carinate at apex. Distribution. Brazil: Alagoas and Sergipe.
