( Fig. 291)
Redescription. Forewings elongated, 2.2 times longer than wide, length: male 5.2–5.5 mm, female about 4.7 mm. Colour of head and thorax orange-brown, but rostrum, antennae, subantennal processes, sides of pronotum, scutellum, and legs stramineous; abdomen stramineous, gradually turning orange-brown in posterior half, however, first 2 abdominal pleura orange and genitalia stramineous. Forewings with a broad band of light infuscation from clavus tip to apex of basal median cell; faintly infuscated around base of Ms2 and along apical crossveins; veins stramineous to light brown, but some veins near anterior apical crossveins faintly tinted with orange; hind margin near clavus tip orange; 4 dark spots on base of Sc+ R. In profile junction of vertex and face evenly rounded; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae by a low ridge. Forewings with Sc+ R fork before middle of wing; basal median cell broad, more than twice as wide as basal cell between Sc+ R and M; tips of Ms1b and Cu1 separated, a triangle at base of Ms1. Hindwings with tip of R branched (in two of the 3 specimens examined, including holotype). Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Proximal dorsal process of genital styles short and slender; distal dorsal process long. Apical part of aedeagus with two flat lobes, pointed at the tips .
Etymology. The species is probably named for S. Matsumura who described leaf- and plant hoppers during Muir's time and ' matsumurae ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.
Type material. Lectotype ♂ (here designated) (forewing 5.5 mm), TAIWAN; labels: 1) L. TYPE / matsumurae/ M. 2) Levu / matsumurae/ 653 Muir ( BPBM # 5208 About BPBM ).
Note. Muir gives "Arisan, Formosa " as type locality and did not state on how many specimens his original description was based. Since he describes male and female characters the description must have been based on at least 2 syntypes. The BPBM contains 3 specimens matching Muir's description. Only one male has a locality label (Taiwan) and the inscription Muir. It also bears a type label and is here selected as lectotype. No other data are given on these specimens .
Other material examined. no data 1 ♂ 1 ♀ ( BPBM) .
Distribution. Taiwan.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite matsumurae resembles Sa. chinensis sp. nov. from southern China as well as Sa. indochinensis sp. nov. from Laos. It can be separated from both by the orange-brown head and thorax and the infuscated band across the forewing base.
