Type locality. Northwest of Sombrero Island, off southwest Luzon, Philippines; 432 m.

Remarks. Munidopsis crenatirostris can be distinguished from other species in Australia by the combination of the following diagnostic characters: a strongly concave frontal margin of the carapace that bears an outer orbital spine; the absence of epigastric spines; the absence of an epipod on the chela and the division of the telson into 12 plates. This is the first report of the species in Australian waters.

Distribution. Philippines (Sombrero Island, off southwestern Luzon), Indonesia (Bali Strait and Kei Islands), and southwestern Australia; 200– 754 m.
