Aulacoderus copiosissimus nom. nov.
Anthicus (Aulacoderus) brevicornis Hille, 1984: 162 (not Anthicus brevicornis Pic, 1894a: 86 , not Anthicus brevicornis Pic, 1894b: 142 )
Notes
Pic (1894a, 1894b) published twice the original description of Anthicus brevicornis from Algeria. This species was subsequently placed in the subgenus Omonadus Mulsant & Rey, 1866 of Anthicus by Winkler (1927: 840) (see below). This subgenus was first raised to genus level by Bonadona (1958: 86). Hille (1984: 162) later described the homonym Anthicus (Aulacoderus) brevicornis from South Africa which was formally listed as Aulacoderus brevicornis by Schütz & Dettner (1992: 292). The replacement name Aulacoderus copiosissimus nom. nov. is here created for Anthicus (Aulacoderus) brevicornis Hille. It is based on the Latin word for "very abundant" ( copiosissimus ), referring to the number (734) of paratypes.
