MANTIDAE View in CoL : VATINAE
Pseudovates iheringi ( Saussure & Zehntner, 1894) View in CoL . Ehrmann (2002) and Agudelo et al. (2007) cited this species from Peru (as Phyllovates iheringi View in CoL ), but without reference to specific localities, as also did Patel & Singh (2016a) (as Pseudovates iheringi View in CoL ). The type locality of this species is Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. The lack of shared praying mantis species between this region and Peru suggest that they are not biogeographically connected, and thus it is unlikely that P. inheringi is found in Peru. This conclusion is reinforced by the absence of Pseudovates View in CoL species with marginally serrate pronotum in Peru, a distinct feature of P. inheringi . Accordingly, we remove this species from the Peruvian praying mantis fauna.
Pseudovates tripunctata ( Burmeister, 1838) View in CoL . Ehrmann (2002) and Agudelo et al. (2007) cited this species from Peru (as Phyllovates tripunctata ) but without reference to specific localities, as also did Patel & Singh (2016a) (as Pseudovates tripunctata View in CoL ). The type locality of this species is in Bahia, in northeastern Brazil. As in the previous species, the biogeographic disconnection between this region and Peru makes this record highly unlikely. Accordingly, we remove this species from the Peruvian praying mantis fauna.
