Anhoraeomorphus diegoi (Franz) , comb. n.

( Figs 111–118 View FIGURES 111–118 )

Horaeomorphus diegoi Franz, 1986b: 156 View in CoL .

Type material studied. Paratype (Madagascar): ♂, three labels: “ MUSEUM PARIS / MADAGASCAR / (PERRIER DE LA BATHIE)” [bluish, printed], “ Horaeomorphus / diegoi m. / det. H.Franz / PARATYPUS ” [yellowish, handwritten and printed] ( NHMW) .

Revised diagnosis. Body ( Fig.111 View FIGURES 111–118 ) slender; head ( Figs 112–113 View FIGURES 111–118 ) round, with vertex posteriorly broadly rounded; pronotum ( Fig. 111 View FIGURES 111–118 ) bell-shaped, broadest between middle and anterior third, with one pair of large and deep antebasal pits; antennomeres 3–6 ( Fig. 114 View FIGURES 111–118 ) each about as long as broad, 7–10 each slightly transverse; profemora slightly thicker than meso- and metafemora; hind tibiae in male modified, strongly thickening to distal third and then narrowing towards apex; aedeagus ( Figs 115–116 View FIGURES 111–118 ) in ventral view broadest in sub-basal third, apical region of dorsal wall in lateral view weakly curved dorsally, distolateral endophallic sclerites broadly separated, each elongate and with curved subtriangular apex, each paramere with minute 2–3 apical and subapical setae.

Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 111 View FIGURES 111–118 ) flattened, moderately uniformly light brown, setae yellowish; BL 1.79 mm.

Head ( Fig. 112 View FIGURES 111–118 ) in anterodorsal view round, broadest at eyes, HL 0.30 mm, HW 0.30 mm; temple in lateral view ( Fig. 113 View FIGURES 111–118 ) subequal to eye; vertex and frons confluent, together weakly convex and about as long as broad; vertex posteriorly broadly rounded; each eye moderately large and weakly convex, oval, weakly projecting from head silhouette. Punctures on vertex fine, inconspicuous; setae short, dense and suberect; frons and vertex densely covered with thick bristles directed posteriorly. Antenna ( Fig. 114 View FIGURES 111–118 ) slender but short, indistinctly shorter than half BL, AnL 0.80 mm, antennomeres 1–2 each weakly elongate, 3–6 each about as long as broad, 7–10 each weakly transverse, 11 indistinctly shorter than 9 and 10 combined, as wide as 10, about 1.8 times as long as broad.

Pronotum bell-shaped, broadest between middle and anterior third; PL 0.48 mm, PW 0.40 mm. Anterior margin strongly rounded, lateral margins rounded in anterior half, strongly sinuate in posterior half; posterior corners blunt; posterior margin nearly straight. Base with one pair of large and deep pits, sublateral carinae indiscernible. Disc with fine, inconspicuous punctures; setae dense, short and suberect, lateral surface of pronotum with dense thick bristles.

Elytra together oval, broadest distinctly in front of middle; EL 0.93 mm, EW 0.60 mm, EI 1.54; humeral calli weakly elevated, basal elytral foveae vestigial, barely discernible. Punctures very dense but extremely shallow and diffuse, so that surface of elytra appears slightly less glossy than pronotum; setae sparse, short and suberect.

Legs moderately long, slender, unmodified except all tibiae, which are thick and slightly recurved, fore tibiae with large distomesal concave patch of dense adhesive setae, metatibiae strongly broadening to distal third and then narrowing.

Aedeagus ( Figs 115–118 View FIGURES 111–118 ) slender, AeL 0.28 mm; in ventral view broadest in sub-basal third, drop-shaped, distally gradually narrowing to broadly subtriangular apex with weakly marked obtusely angulate tip; in lateral view apical region of dorsal wall weakly curved dorsally; endophallus with nearly symmetrical and conspicuously large distolateral sclerites and with strongly asymmetrical assemblage of median sclerotized structures, distolateral sclerites broadly separated, each with long subtriangular and curved apical region; parameres broad and their apices not projecting beyond aedeagal apex, each paramere with apical-subapical group of 2–3 barely discernible setae.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Northernmost Madagascar (Diana Region).

Remarks. Males of Anhoraeomorphus diegoi have the hind tibiae similarly modified as those in A. anosyensis and A. roussettensis . However, the body of A. diegoi is slenderer and the aedeagus has the distolateral endophallic sclerites much broader than those in A. anosyensis and A. roussettensis .

Franz (1986b) mentions three specimens, all males, included in the type series. The holotype comes from Diego-Suarez (currently Antsiranana) and was collected by Charles Alluaud, two paratypes are from Léon Fairmaire’s collection and their collecting site is unknown. The holotype and one paratype are deposited in Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris and were not available for my study. The examined paratype male ( NHMW) has the aedeagus matching the illustration in the original description .
