Anhoraeomorphus andapensis (Franz) , comb. n.
( Figs 20–27 View FIGURES 20–27 )
Horaeomorphus andapensis Franz, 1986b: 172 View in CoL .
Type material studied. Holotype ( Madagascar): ♂, four labels: “Madagaskar,Montagne / de Marojezy b.Andape / lg. H.Franz 1969” [white, printed], “ Horaeomorphus / andapensis m. / det. H.Franz ” [yellowish, handwritten and printed], “Typus” [red, handwritten], “ ♂ ” [white, printed] ( NHMW).
Revised diagnosis. Body ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20–27 ) slender; head ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 20–27 ) about as long as wide, with vertex subconical, in anterodorsal view its posterior margin subtriangular; pronotum ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20–27 ) subtrapezoidal, broadest at base, with one pair of shallow antebasal pits; antennomeres 3–10 not elongate; all femora similarly slender; metatibiae in males unmodified; aedeagus ( Figs 24–27 View FIGURES 20–27 ) in ventral view broadest near base, with apical region of dorsal wall weakly curved distoventrally, distolateral endophallic sclerites widely separated and with emarginate apices, each paramere with only apical setae.
Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20–27 ) dark brown, nearly black, tarsi and palps distinctly lighter, setae slightly lighter than cuticle, dark brown; BL 1.50 mm.
Head ( Figs 21–22 View FIGURES 20–27 ) in anterodorsal view almost triangular, broadest at eyes, HL 0.30 mm, HW 0.30 mm; temple in lateral view ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 20–27 ) subequal to length of eye; vertex and frons confluent, together weakly convex and slightly elongate; vertex subconical, with its posterior margin nearly triangular; each eye moderately large and weakly convex, with barely marked posteromedian emargination, weakly projecting from head silhouette. Punctures on vertex fine, inconspicuous; setae short, sparse and suberect; posterior region of frons and entire vertex densely covered with thick bristles directed posteriorly. Antenna ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 20–27 ) slender but short, indistinctly shorter than half BL, AnL 0.68 mm, antennomeres 1 and 2 each weakly elongate, 3–10 each about as long as broad or indistinctly transverse; 11 shorter than 9 and 10 combined, almost as wide as 10, nearly twice as long as broad.
Pronotum ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20–27 ) subtrapezoidal, broadest at base; PL 0.38 mm, PW 0.35 mm.Anterior margin straight, lateral margins almost straight and moderately diverging posteriorly; posterior corners blunt; posterior margin indistinctly convex. Base with one pair of round and shallow pits, and with barely discernible, extremely short vestiges of sublateral carinae. Disc with fine, inconspicuous punctures; setae sparse, short and suberect, lateral and lateroventral surface of pronotum with dense thick bristles.
Elytra ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20–27 ) together oval, broadest slightly in front of middle; EL 0.83 mm, EW 0.68 mm, EI 1.22; humeral calli weakly elevated, basal elytral foveae vestigial, barely discernible. Punctures fine and inconspicuous; setae sparse, short and suberect.
Legs moderately long, slender, unmodified except slightly curved tibiae.
Aedeagus ( Figs 24–25 View FIGURES 20–27 ) stout, AeL 0.28 mm; in ventral view broadest near base and narrowing towards broadly rounded apex; in lateral view apical region of dorsal plate weakly curved distoventrally; endophallus with slightly asymmetrical and elongate distolateral sclerites, symmetrical basilateral sclerites and with asymmetrical weakly sclerotized median structures containing a group of elongate sclerites situated in basal region; distolateral sclerites broadly separated and each with distinctly emarginate apex; parameres slender with broadened apical regions, their apices not projecting beyond aedeagal apex, each paramere with two short apical setae.
Female. Unknown.
Distribution. Northern Madagascar (Sava Region).
Remarks. The names “Marojezy” and “Andape” from the locality label of the holotype are misspelled Marojejy and Andapa.
Anhoraeomorphus andapensis is externally similar to A. ankaratranus , both species have the pronota broadest at base. However, in A. andapensis the pronotum has nearly straight lateral margins, whereas in A. ankaratranus the pronotum has rounded, convex sides.
