Anhoraeomorphus procerus (Franz) , comb. n.

( Figs 36–43 View FIGURES 36–43 )

Horaeomorphus procerus Franz, 1986b: 166 View in CoL .

Type material studied. Holotype (Madagascar): ♂, three labels: “Madagascar Est / district Sambava / Marojejy / Ambinanitelo” [white, printed], “INSTITUT / SCIENTIFIQUE / MADAGASCAR ” [bluish, printed], “ Horaeomorphus / procerus m. / det. H.Franz ” [yellowish, handwritten and printed], “Typus” [red, handwritten] ( NHMW).

Revised diagnosis. Body ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36–43 ) slender; head ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 36–43 ) about as long as broad, with vertex transverse, in anterodorsal view its posterior margin truncate at middle; pronotum ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36–43 ) bell-shaped, broadest near middle, with two pairs of deep antebasal pits: large and deep inner pits and barely discernible, small and shallow outer pits; antennomeres 1–2 elongate, 3 about as long as broad, 4–7 each elongate, 8–10 each about as long as broad; all femora similarly slender; metatibiae in males unmodified; aedeagus ( Figs 40–43 View FIGURES 36–43 ) in ventral view broadest near base, with apical region of dorsal wall nearly straight, distolateral endophallic sclerites broadly separated, each with hook-like apex curved mesad, each paramere with one long and four subapical setae of various lengths.

Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36–43 ) light brown, tarsi and palps distinctly lighter, setae yellowish; BL 1.53 mm.

Head ( Figs 37–38 View FIGURES 36–43 ) in anterodorsal view subquadrate, broadest at eyes, HL 0.25 mm, HW 0.28 mm; temple in lateral view ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 36–43 ) slightly longer than eye; vertex and frons confluent, together weakly convex and about as long as broad; posterior margin of vertex truncate at middle; each eye large and strongly convex, with straight posteromedian margin. Punctures on vertex fine, inconspicuous; setae short, sparse and suberect; frons and vertex densely covered with thick bristles directed posteriorly. Antenna ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 36–43 ) slender but short, slightly shorter than half BL, AnL 0.73 mm, antennomeres 1–2 elongate, 3 about as long as broad, 4–7 each elongate, 8–10 each about as long as broad; 11 shorter than 9 and 10 combined, as wide as 10, nearly twice as long as broad.

Pronotum ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 28–35 ) bell-shaped, broadest near middle; PL 0.43 mm, PW 0.33 mm. Anterior margin nearly straight, lateral margins rounded, more strongly converging anteriorly than posteriorly; posterior corners blunt; posterior margin indistinctly convex. Base with two pairs of pits: inner pits conspicuously large, deep, outer pits barely discernible, small and shallow, and with barely discernible, extremely short vestiges of sublateral carinae. Disc with fine, inconspicuous punctures; setae sparse, short and suberect, lateral and lateroventral surface of pronotum with dense thick bristles.

Elytra ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36–43 ) together oval, broadest slightly anterior to middle; EL 0.85 mm, EW 0.58 mm, EI 1.48; humeral calli weakly elevated, basal elytral foveae vestigial, barely discernible. Punctures fine and inconspicuous; setae sparse, short and suberect.

Legs moderately long, slender, unmodified except slightly recurved tibiae.

Aedeagus ( Figs 40–43 View FIGURES 36–43 ) slender, AeL 0.33 mm; in ventral view broadest near base and weakly narrowing towards step-wise delimited apical region, which is subtriangular with truncate apex; in lateral view apical region of dorsal plate nearly straight; endophallus with slightly asymmetrical and elongate distolateral sclerites and asymmetrical median structures, distolateral sclerites broadly separated, each with hook-like apex curved mesally; parameres thick, shorter than median lobe, each paramere with one long apical and four subapical setae of various lengths.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Northern Madagascar (Sava Region).

Remarks. Anhoraeomorphus procerus was described based on two specimens; only the holotype male was studied. The paratype male is deposited in Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris and was not available for my study. The village Ambinanitelo was misspelled by Franz (1986b) as “Ambinaniteta”.

Anhoraeomorphus procerus is externally similar to A. ivelonanus , see Remarks for the latter species.
