Previous records. Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador.

Remarks. The cuticular patterns of dorsal and ventral shields and measurements of the specimens examined here are similar to those indicated in the original description; however, as Moraes & Mesa (1988) and Moraes et al. (1991) found for specimens from Colombia and Ecuador, setae j3 and r3 are longer than indicated in the original description. The shape of the spermatheca also varies in the specimens examined ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 ). In the specimen from San Martín, the calyx is typically saccular, but slightly shorter (17 µm) than reported by Moraes & Mesa (1988) (19–24 µm). In 6 of the 7 specimens from Cajamarca, the calyx is shorter (14–15 µm) and bell-shaped, suggesting that those specimens could represent a different species; however, in one female specimen from that same place, one calyx was saccular and the other bell-shaped. Until further specimens of this group are available, the specimens from Peru are considered to represent intra-specific variation within P. neotropicus .
