(12) A. argentus View in CoL versus A. agilis Dickman, Parnaby, Crowther & King
Pelage: A. argentus has a silvery head and neck that merges subtly to deep olive-buff on the rump and flanks; A. agilis is a uniform medium grey to greyish brown from head to rump.
External measurements: A. argentus has similar external body measures to A. agilis (Table 4).
Dentary: Antechinus argentus is larger than A. agilis in absolute measurement in males for the following: R- LM 1, R-LM 1 T, R-LM 2, R-LM 3, UML, LML and M 2 W. A. argentus tend to have larger and broader skulls than A. agilis (Table 4).
Other Comments: A. argentus occurs in south-east Qld at Kroombit Tops NP, whereas A. agilis is known only from south-eastern Australia, south of around Sydney’s (NSW) latitude ( Dickman et al., 1998). Genetics: Uncorrected pairwise range differences at the mitochondrial gene CytB between A. argentus and A. agilis are 12.1– 13.4%.
