Diagnosis. Forewing length is 12–13 mm in males and 20–21 mm in females. Male of C. pauliani differs externally from that of C. saalmuelleri by its narrower transverse lines. Female of C. pauliani can be distinguished from that of C. saalmuelleri by its narrower transverse lines, discal spot separated from the postmedial line, and the absence of crimson spots along the outer margin at forewing apex. The male genital capsules of the two species are very similar, but in C. pauliani the costa is conspicuously more convex. The main male genital differences between the two species are in the aedeagus vesica structures: in C. pauliani the dorsal diverticulum lacks the 2 nd subdiverticulum and bears an elongated cluster of spines, whereas in C. saalmuelleri the 2 nd subdiverticulum is present and the cluster of spines is more compact, bunch-like. The female genitalia of the two species are similar, but in C. pauliani the apophyses anteriores are slightly shorter than those of C. saalmuelleri , the ductus bursae is slightly more elongated, the corpus bursae has a lateral protrusion (absent in C. saalmuelleri ), and the distal, membranous section of the appendix bursae is broader.

Distribution. Central Madagascar (Ankaratra Range) ( Toulgoët 1954; Karisch 2013).
