Eubasilissa sikkimensis sp. nov.

( Figs. 1–9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 23 View FIGURES 23 – 25 )

Holotype male: Length of each forewing 27 mm. Head and thorax dark brown. Labrum & labial palpi brown. Colour patterns and wing venation as in Figs. 8–9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 .

Male genitalia ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ): Segment IX short in upper ½ then slightly longer in lower half with rounded anterolateral edges and slightly sinuous posterolateral edges in lateral view; dorsally tergum IX forming transversely narrow band, nearly elliptical, with transverse band of setae over its surface; posteroventral edge of tergum IX extended caudad into dome-shaped lobe in caudal view. Segment X divided mesally to base of segment; each branch divided apically by shallow and wide excision into posterolateral and posteromesal processes, posterolateral processes slightly longer than posteromesal processes, each branch with long setae over its surface and with slightly rounded lateral expansion evident in dorsal and lateral views. Preanal appendages each long, finger-shaped in dorsal view, originating near anterolateral edge of segment X and captiate in lateral view. Inferior appendages each with very short setae basally, apical 2/3rds triangular and with longer setae in lateral view. Phallotheca produced into a long, narrow posteroventral lobe directed ventrad and with dentate caudal surface; membranous endotheca with a long, apically tapering sclerite.

Female genitalia ( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ): Subgenital plate terminating in rounded median lobe with shorter, triangular lateral lobe on each side; posterior edge of vaginal opening heavily sclerotized. Vaginal pouch large, almost triangular, its posterior angle rounded and anterior one truncate in caudal view. Tergum VIII quadrate in lateral view, sternum VIII with posterolateral margins rounded near centre and posteroventral edge somewhat pointed in lateral view. Median lobe finger-shaped in lateral view.

Diagnosis. This species resembles with Eubasilissa maclachlani (White) but can be differentiated from the latter by having the posteroventral edge of male segment IX simple (with transverse ridges in E. maclachlani ); segment X with a wide and deep excision to its base (not extending to the base in E. maclachlani ); phallotheca with a dentate posteroventral lobe (with a simple lobe in E. maclachlani ); and the endotheca with straight sclerites (with grooved sclerites in E. maclachlani ). Female genitalia have a rounded median lobe and well developed lateral lobes (truncate median lobe and reduced lateral lobes in E. maclachlani ).

Etymology. The name of the species is based on the state in which the type locality falls.

Distribution. India (Sikkim).

Material examined. Holotype 3. INDIA: Sikkim, Lachung, 2600 m, 14-viii-2009, collectors Parey & Pandher. Paratype: Same data, 1Ƥ.
