Andesipolis supernus Shimbori sp. n.

( Figs 11 View FIGURES 2 – 13 , 25 View FIGURES 14 – 25 , 35 View FIGURES 35 – 36 , 54 View FIGURES 47 – 55 , 153–158 View FIGURES 153 – 158 )

Female. Body length 2.9–4.4 mm; fore wing length 3.2–4.6 mm.

Head. Smooth and polished, moderately setose; 1.1–1.3x wider than mesoscutum. Face 1.4–1.6x broader than long, smooth and polished. Clypeus 1.6–2.0x broader than long. Malar space 0.5–0.6x eye height in frontal view. In lateral view, eyes 0.8–1.0x longer than temple. Maximum width of lateral ocellus 0.30–0.38x ocell-ocular distance. Antenna 1.2–1.3x longer than fore wing, 31–41 segmented; first flagellomere 5.9–6.8x longer than wide; torulli elevated with distinct lamella at outer side.

Mesosoma . About 1.9–2.0x longer than high. Mesonotum 1.51–1.66x longer than width of mesoscutum. Pronotum dorsally crenulate with distinct mid-longitudinal carina anteriorly; posteriorly with crenulate arched sulcus; 0.9–1.1x longer than vertex, the posterior region about 1.5–2.0x longer than anterior region; pronotum smooth and polished, with few scattered setae along posterior and ventral margins; pronotal groove crenulate anteriorly. Mesonotum smooth and polished; mesoscutum mostly covered with scattered setae, median lobe of densely setose, scutellar sulcus bare, scutellum with scattered setae at posterior apex; notauli present on anterior 0.25–0.35 of the mesoscutum, deeply impressed and virtually smooth; mid pit narrow and shallow, 0.31–0.39x the length of mesoscutum; scutellum about as long as wide, smooth and polished; scutellar sulcus 0.27–0.33x longer than wide, with one median carina; mesoscutellar trough costate proximally, smooth distally. Metanotum without median carina; laterally costate along posterior margin, with sparse setae. Mesopleuron bare on central portion, setae concentrated on anterior corner and ventrally; sternaulus weakly crenulate or smooth. Epicnemial carina present ventrally, incomplete. Metapleuron mostly rugose but smooth dorsally, with long and scattered setae. Propodeum rugose medially with shallow basal sulcus along margin with metanotum; areola indistinct anteriorly, with distinct cross-bridge and two pairs of transverse lateral carinae ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 14 – 25 ); median carina relatively long, posteriorly irregular. Hind coxa 1.6–1.9x longer than wide, 0.9–1.0x as long as metasomal TI. Hind basitarsus about 0.44–0.46x as long as hind tibia. Hind tarsal claws without basal lobe.

Wings. Fore wing. Stigma 4.7–5.5x longer than broad; vein r arising slightly distad from middle of stigma. Vein r 0.4–0.6x longer than vein 3RSa. Vein 2RS weakly curved, about 0.7–0.9x longer than 3RSa. Vein 3RSa 0.46–0.57 x 3 RSb and 1.6–1.9x as long as vein r-m. Vein 1Cub 2.2–2.3x vein 1CUa. Vein (RS+M)b relatively long. Vein 1-1AC very short or virtually absent, less than 0.15x longer than vein 2-1A. Hind wing. Vein M+CU 0.9–1.2x longer than 1M. Vein cu-a about 0.35–0.42x as long as 1M. Vein r-m 0.3–0.4x as long as 1M.

Metasoma. TI 1.23–1.42x as long as apical width; striate-rugose, apico-laterally smooth; dorsal carinae short, present only basally, converging but not meeting; dorsope deep and large. Metasoma beyond petiole weakly sclerotized; TII about 1.9–2.2x longer than TIII. Ovipositor straight, 0.6–1.0x as long as hind tibia; ovipositor sheaths 0.7–1.0x as long as ovipositor.

Color. Black (specimens older than 40 years from collection date are dark red-brown). Mandibles blackish with red-brown patch medially. Palpi dark brown. Mesopleuron bellow sternaulus and pedicel lighter. Metasoma beyond TI light brown. Legs honey yellow; hind tibia and tarsi orange-brown, base of hind tibia dark brown; hind coxa brown. Wings hyaline, veins light brown, stigma whitish.

Male. Similar to female. Body length 2.6–3.4 mm; antenna length 3.3–4.8 mm, 30–36 antennomeres; fore wing 3.2–3.8 mm. Petiole of male much slender than female, length of TI about 2x apical width.

Biology. Unknown

Comments. This species is similar to A. yanayacu mainly in color pattern and several proportions, although A. supernus sp. n. has a much more elongated body as compared with A. yanayacu . A. supernus sp. n. can also be distinguished from A. yanayacu by the straight ovipositor (curved in A. yanayacu ), hind wing vein 1M about as long as M+CU (M+CU 1.7 time longer than 1M in A. yanayacu ). The relatively long pronotum and the very short vein 1-1AC on fore wing resemble A. longicollis sp. n. A. supernus sp. n. is distinct from A. longicollis sp. n. in the mesoscutum mostly covered with setae and bare scutellar sulcus (in A. longicollis sp. n. the mesoscutum have scattered setae anteriorly and on median lobe, and the scutellar sulcus have at least one transverse line of setae), the longer antenna (1.5 x longer than body in A. supernus sp. n. and 1.3 in A. longicollis sp. n.), and relatively shorter vein M+CU (about 1.8x longer than 1M in A. longicollis sp. n.).

Distribution. Colombia, Andes Mountains, 3,240 to 3,880 meters above sea level.

Etymology. From the Latin, supernus means celestial and also northern. The species name is an allusion to its northern distribution, and also to the high elevation where it is found.

Type material. Holotype, female (IAVH-E- 150201). “ COLOMBIA Cundinamarca / PNN Chingaza Alto de la Bandera / 4°31’N 73°45’W 3660 m / Malaise 09–19.X.2001 / L. Cifuentes Leg. M.2549.” GoogleMaps
