Andesipolis patagoniensis Shimbori & Gessner sp. n.
( Figs 134–138 View FIGURES 134 – 138 )
Female. Body length 3.2 mm; fore wing length 3.2 mm.
Head. Smooth and mat (weak fingerprint-like microsculpturing covering most of body except mesopleuron and metasoma beyond TI), relatively densely setose; 1.25x wider than mesoscutum. Face 1.7x broader than long, smooth and polished. Clypeus 2.4x broader than long. Malar space 0.4x eye height in frontal view. In lateral view, eyes 1.1x longer than temple. Maximum width of lateral ocellus 0.47x ocell-ocular distance. Antenna 1.1x as long as fore wing, 27 segmented; first flagellomere 3.9x longer than wide.
Mesosoma . Surface mostly mat; 1.9x longer than high. Mesonotum 1.46x longer than width of mesoscutum. Pronotum dorsally with smooth sulcus and distinct mid-longitudinal carina anteriorly, posteriorly smooth; 0.67x longer than vertex, the posterior region 1.7x longer than anterior region; laterally smooth and mat, scattered setae along posteriorly. Mesonotum punctate and mat; mesoscutum covered with setae, scutellar sulcus with few scattered setae, scutellum with scattered setae along margin; notauli wide and crenulate dorsally, about 0.35x longer than mesonotum; mid pit 0.6x the length of mesonotum; scutellum 1.4x longer than wide, smooth and polished; scutellar sulcus 0.34x longer than wide, with one median carina; mesoscutellar trough costate proximally, smooth distally. Metanotum without median carina; laterally virtually smooth with scattered setae. Mesopleuron centrally bare, with scattered setae concentrated on anterior corner, posteriorly and ventrally; sternaulus shallow and weakly rugose; anterior corner of mesopleuron smooth. Epicnemial carina present ventrally, incomplete. Metapleuron smooth and mat, with long and scattered setae. Propodeum mostly smooth with fine and irregular strigate surface (microsculpturing not visible under light microscope, however the reflection is very distinct from a polished surface); median carina long, areola virtually absent anteriorly, with distinct cross-bridge and two pairs of transverse lateral carinae. Hind coxa 2.1x longer than wide, 0.75x as long as metasomal TI. Hind basitarsus about 0.42x as long as hind tibia. Hind tarsal claws without basal lobe.
Wings. Fore wing. Stigma 3.3x longer than broad; vein r arising from middle of stigma. Vein r 0.59x longer than vein 3RSa. Vein 2RS sinuate, as long as 3RSa. Vein 3 RSa 0.44 x 3 RSb and 1.84x as long as vein r-m. Vein 1 Cub 1.65x vein 1CUa. Vein (RS+M)b distinct, not pigmented. Vein 1-1AC 0.37x longer than vein 2-1 A. Hind wing. Vein M +CU 1.8x longer than 1M. Vein cu-a 0.55x as long as 1M. Vein r-m 0.56x as long as 1M.
Metasoma. TI 1.6x as long as apical width; mostly granular-coriaceous, apically rugose medially with some striation laterally; dorsal carinae short, converging but not meeting; dorsope deep. Metasoma beyond petiole weakly sclerotized; TII 1.9x longer than TIII. Ovipositor straight, 0.77x as long as hind tibia; ovipositor sheaths 0.74x longer than ovipositor.
Color. Yellow. Antenna brown. Mandible tips brown. Palpi white. Fore leg light yellow. Wings hyaline, veins brown, stigma white.
Male. Unknown.
Biology. Unknown.
Comments. A. patagoniensis sp. n. is the only known species with entirely yellow body color. Other distinguishing characters are the petiole with sculpturing mostly granular coriaceous with short dorsal carinae, and about 1.6x longer than apical width.
Distribution. Known only from type locality in Cisnes Medio, Chile, at 200 meters above sea level.
Etymology. This species is named after the Patagonia, the name of the southern South American region where this species occurs.
Type material. Holotype, female ( CNC). “ CHILE: Aisen, 16 km NW / Cisnes Medio, Rio Grande / 30.xii.1984 – 28.i. 1985, 200 m / S. & W. Peck. Nothofagus ”.
