Hyotissa sp.

Habitat. Cemented to dead coral and coral rubble.

Distribution. Found only occasionally in the sublittoral of the lagoon and on the reef front at 15 m. Pointe Coton, Ile Hermitage, Blue Holes.

Remarks. This reddish purple oyster is generally circular in outline, lacks marginal plications and is cemented by the whole of the lower valve. In these respects it cannot be equated with either of the common Indian Ocean species, H. numisma and H. hyotis .
