Psychomyia extensa Li, Sun & Yang 1999: 416 , 462.

Description: Length of each forewing 2.9–3.1 mm (n = 10). Specimens in alcohol with compound eyes black, legs brown, dorsal surfaces of thorax and abdomen dark brown, ventral surfaces pale cream. Forewings with forks II, III, IV, and V present, crossveins s, r, m-cu and m zigzagged; hind wings with forks II, III, and V present, R 1 atrophied, but discernable, R 2+3 ending at Sc ( Figs 7e, 7f View FIGURE 7 ).

Male genitalia: Tergum IX and sternum IX distinctly separated from each other ( Fig. 5a View FIGURE 5 ). Apical sclerites discernible in dorsal view (a.s. in Fig. 5d View FIGURE 5 ), each with lower margin produced into triangular lobe at midlength. Preanal appendages subrectangular in lateral view (pre.app. in Fig. 5a View FIGURE 5 ), slightly clavate in dorsal view (pre.app. in Fig. 5d View FIGURE 5 ), with thickened bases and apices. Coxopodites fused and indistinguishable from basal plate (b.p. in Fig. 5e View FIGURE 5 ). Harpagones setose, bifid, in ventral view pincer-shaped (har. in Fig. 5e View FIGURE 5 ), each with lateral branch wider than mesal one. Phallic apparatus with phallotheca elliptical; endotheca with base having pair of processes ( Figs 5b, 5c, 5e View FIGURE 5 ), and apex having apical hook in lateral view ( Fig. 5a View FIGURE 5 ), and with ejaculatory duct opening anterior to apical hook.

Distribution: China (An-hui, Fu-jian, Hu-bei, Jiang-xi, Si-chuan, and Zhe-jiang).

Remarks: The species has tergum IX incompletely fused with preanal appendages and is discernible in both dorsal and ventral views. Furthermore, the species has relatively simple harpagones. Therefore, we treat it as a member of Schmid’s P. pusilla Species Group.
