Prochas brasiliensis Onody & Penteado-Dias , sp. nov.
( Figures 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 )
Description. Female holotype ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Fore wing length 4.2 mm.
Head. Transverse, 1.1 × height, mostly granulose; antenna with 26 flagellomeres, first flagellomere three × as long as width; lateral ocellus separated from eye by 0.6 × its own diameter; distance between lateral ocelli 2.5 × their diameter; malar space narrow, 0.6 × basal mandibular width.
Mesosoma . Mostly pilose. Pronotum finely and densely punctate, striate at hind margin; epomia absent ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ); mesoscutum granulose-rugose without discernible notaulices; scutellum rugose with lateral carinae; upper part of mesopleuron slightly striate, with a smooth area in epcnemium and punctate in the remaining area; epicnemial carina present; sternaulus not strong distinctly anteriorly ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ); posterior transverse carina of mesosternum complete; propodeum mostly rugose, fully carinated and areola elongated coffin-shaped ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ); metapleuron rugose with juxtacoxal carina weakly distinct dorsally ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ); anterior coxae without ventral carina.
Metasoma. Strongly coriaceous on tergites I and II, remaining tergites finely coriaceous almost smooth; tergite I with apical width about 2.8 × as long as basal width; tergite II with tiridia present; ovipositor slightly up curved, 1.0 × length of hind tibia; fore wing with Rs&M basad to cu-a vein; hind wing with four hamuli.
Color. Head black; antennae brown with scape and pedicel dorsally black and ventrally light yellow; mandible yellow and its apex brown; clypeus apically and palpi yellow. Mesosoma black, tegula yellow; anterior legs mostly light yellow, mid legs orange brown with trochanter and trochantellus yellow, tibial spurs, basitarsus and coxae apically light yellow; posterior legs orange brown, coxae black, tarsomeres brown and trochanter, trochantellus, tibial spurs, basitarsus and tibia basally white yellowish; wings hyaline. Metasoma mainly orange, tergites I and II black and apically light yellow, tergite III basally blackish; ovipositor sheaths brown.
Variation: Fore wing length 4.0– 4.5 mm; antennae of some females with 27–29 flagellomeres and areola of the propodeum not so elongated.
Male: Same as female, except the epcnemium with a smoother area ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ).
Distribution. Brazil: Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco and São Paulo States ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 ).
Host. Unknown.
Etymology. The specific name refers to Brazil, the country in which the holotype was collected.
Comments. Prochas brasiliensis sp. n. is the only species with the juxtacoxal carina incomplete dorsally and antenna with less than 30 flagellomeres. It can also be easily distinguished from the other species by distance between lateral ocelli 2.5 × their diameter, upper part of mesopleuron very finely striate, almost smooth, propodeum with areola elongated coffin-shaped, fore wing with Rs&M basad to cu-a vein and ovipositor up curved, as long as hind tibia.
