X. d. Schenkel, 1963: 213, figs 120a–c (♀).

X. excavatus Schenkel, 1963: 211 View in CoL , figs 119a–b (♀). Syn. n. X. hotingchiehi Schenkel, 1963: 215 View in CoL , figs 121a–c (♀). Syn. n. X. pentagonius Seyfulina & Mikhailov, 2004: 252 View in CoL , figs 3–5 (♀). Syn. n.

Type material. Xysticus davidi : 4 ♀ syntypes [examined], one herewith designated as a lectotype and the epigyne dissected: “Mus Paris, Kion-Kiang a. David 1198-74”. Text data: “Kiukiang, V 1873: 1 ♀” indicates only one specimen. Data in introduction “Dd 5 Kiu-kiang, Kiangsi”—which refers to modern Jiangxi Province, Jiujiang.

Xysticus excavatus : holotype ♀ [examined] with dissected epigyne: labels: “Potanin 43”, “43” and “Потанинъ” which refer to: Gansu “Kloster Kadigel” 26.05.1885. Text data “Kloster Schine... Sume, Ordos, 9 IX 84: 1 ♀” which refers to Potanin’s number 10.

Xysticus hotingchiehi : holotype ♀ [examined] without legs, only with left femur I, abdomen separated from prosoma, epigyne dissected; vial label “Wuchang Ho Tingthich”. Text data “Wuchang, 1937: 1 ♀”. Data in introduction: “Wu - Wuchang, Hupei, Mr. Ho-Ting-Chich, 1937” (=Wuhan, Hubei Privince).

Xysticus pentagonius : holotype ♀ and paratype ♀ [examined] from ZMMU, RUSSIA, Amur Area, Tambovski Distr., Muraviovka Park, July 2001 (R. Seyfulina).

Comments. All synonymised species have the same shape of epigyne, are of a similar size and have similar markings. It is possible that this species is conspecific either with X. ferruginoides Schenkel, 1963 or X. insulicola Bösenberg & Strand, 1906 .

Xysticus ferruginoides View in CoL was described on the basis of both sexes, but the female was mismatched and the true female remains unknown. Additional evidence that X. ferruginoides View in CoL can be a senior synonym of X. davidi View in CoL comes from fact that the holotypes of Xysticus amurensis Seyfulina & Mikhailov, 2004 (♂, = ferruginoides View in CoL ) and X. pentagonius Seyfulina & Mikhailov, 2004 View in CoL (♀, = X. davidi View in CoL ) were collected in the same locality. Because 1) female of X. ferrugionoides is unknown, 2) epigyne and vulva of X. insulicola View in CoL were not properly illustrated, 3) type localities of X. davidi View in CoL and X. hotingchiehi View in CoL lie in coastal areas, while the type locality of X. excavatus View in CoL lies in mountains, there is a possibility that X. davidi View in CoL and X. hotingchiehi View in CoL can be synonyms of X. insulicola View in CoL , but that X. excavatus View in CoL can be a synonym of X. ferruginoides View in CoL .
