TYPE LOCALITY: "La Salada, 40 miles [64 km] south of Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico."
DISTRIBUTION: E Jalisco, Michoacan, and N Guerrero (WC Mexico).
SYNONYMS: arceliae Villa-R., 1942; infernatus Alvarez and Ramirez-P., 1968.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Otospermophilus ( Hall, 1981:399) ; but see also Birney and Genoways (1973) who suggested it is closer to subgenus Ictidomys .
