TYPE SPECIES: Sciurus getulus Linnaeus, 1758 .
COMMENTS: Subfamily Xerinae ( Gromov et al., 1965:70) or tribe Xerini ( Moore, 1959) . Atlantoxerus was originally a subgenus of Xerus , and later raised to full generic rank by Thomas (1909a). Closely related to Xerus ( Corbet, 1978c:79) .
