Diagnosis

The following synapomorphies allows the recognition of Chloropepla among other genera of Pentatomini : humeral without spine-like process (11), peritreme ruga shaped, long and evanescent (61), hypandrium with 1 +1 dorsal expansions flanking segment X (231), basal third of segment Xwith processes (251), paramere nearly cylindrical (271). Small to medium sized (10.4–15.96 mm). Other characters that help in the recognition of Chloropepla include: head triangular, juga surpassing clypeus; hypandrium surpassing ventral margin of pygophore; membranous conjunctiva reduced, almost entirely obscured by phallotheca; vesica in a short tube.

Description

Colour. Green, reddish brown or pale yellow in dry preserved specimens, green in life. Concolor to ferruginous punctures. General shape oval. Buccula evanescent, reaching base of head. Proportion among antennal segments length variable. Pronotum trapezoidal, at least 2/3 of anterolateral margins crenulated. Humeral angles produced in spines of variable shape or triangular (not produced in spine). Scutellum covering more than half of abdomen; obtuse apex, posterior forth slightly constricted. Corium of hemelytra longer than scutellum. Tibia dorsally flat with sulcus of variable length. Dorsal spine-like projection at the distal end of femur with variable degree of development. Abdomen ventrally convex.

Male genitalia. Pygophore. Lateral third of dorsal rim bearing process. Ventral rim concave. Ventral wall deeply infolded inside the genital capsule bearing a strongly developed process, the hypandrium. Hypandrium surpassing ventral rim, with dorsal expansions flanking segment X. Segment Xparallel to the longitudinal axis of pygophore, constricted, bearing lateral processes, apex ogival, narrower than base. Parameres nearly cylindrical narrowing from base toward apex, sometimes with dilated apex, bearing spine-like projections on the lateral surface, near the apex. Phallotheca cylindrical slightly curved posteriorly. Vesica short slightly surpassing posterior margin of phallotheca. Base of vesica surrounded by a collar like process.

Female genitalia. Gonocoxites 8 usually convex, at least posterior third of sutural margins divergent. Posterior angles of laterotergites 9 variable in shape. Gonocoxites 9 trapezoidal. Gonapophyses 9 bearing sclerotized areas of variable shape. Capsula seminalis bearing three processes with variable size among species. At least the basal half of pars intermedialis striated.
