Eupholus euphrosyne Porion 1993: 12 . ( Eupholus Guérin-Méneville View in CoL , non Boisduval)

Diagnosis. A Eupholus species with two transverse yellow bands on black elytra. Easily distinguished from E. mimicus sp. n. by the yellow bands being composed of yellow extracuticular particles ( Figs. 34–35 View FIGURES 32 – 37 ), not of scales. Both dorsal and ventral surface subglabrous, without recumbent cream-coloured amygdaloid scales except on apical margin of abdominal ventrites, but often body with scattered, relatively long, suberect setae. Larger than E. sedlaceki : total length of males 21.0–22.0 mm (n=4, =21.4 ± 0.5), of females 22.5–24.0 mm (n=2, =23.3); pronotum + elytron of males 16.0–17.0 mm (n=5, =16.4 ± 0.5), pronotum + elytron of females 18.0–19.0 mm (n=2, =18.5). Yellow elytral bands narrow, area between them wider than a band; anterior margin of posterior band evenly convex across elytral suture.

Material examined. PAPUA NEW GUINEA, Morobe Prov.: 2 males, Watut to Aseki, div nr Aseki, 1250 [m], leg. J.L.Gressitt, 30.XI.1974, “K-956” ( BPBM); 1 male, Aseki, 1120 m, leg. J.L.Gressitt, 13.IV.1974, “? PITT 06P”; 1 female, Upper Watut, 900–1200 m, 20–28.III.1962, Native Collector ( BPBM); 1 female, Aseki, Oiwa, 1600–1700 m, 11–13.III.1998, leg. A.Riedel ( ARC); 1 male, Aseki, VI.1992, local collector ( ARC); 1 male, Aseki, Hiyewini village, 30.IV.1999, local collector ( ARC).

Distribution. Only known from the area of Aseki (Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea).

Notes. The holotype is still housed in TPCJ, not at the Natural History Museum Paris as stated by Porion (1993). It was not possible to examine it, but T. Porion provided a colour photograph of the holotype, which was sufficient to determine the species´identity.
