Harpyrhynchus monstrosus, Moss 1979: 381 (misidentification)
Description. FEMALE (holotype, Figs. 17 View FIGURE 17 C–D and 19D). Body, including gnathosoma, 475 long (460–480 in 2 paratypes) and 515 wide (510–520). Gnathosoma about 115 long and 110 wide. Palp about 60 long and 35 wide. Palpalae pectinate, palpalae dF and dG subequal, 19–20 long; palpalae l”G 14–15 long, about 2/3 length of other palpalae. Setae vF about 20 long. Dorsal shield about 140 long and 440 wide. Dorsal striated idiosomal cuticle distinctly granulated. Setae vi, ve, si, se, and c2 about 20 long. Vulvar fold situated 2 times closer to anterior margin of idiosoma than to posterior margin. Leg I and II setation (solenidia in parentheses): tarsi 8(1)–7(1), tibiae 5–5, genua-femora- trochanters 0–0. Articulated segment of legs III with 3 setae 40–45 long, all setae inserted apically. Additional setae 10 pairs. Legs IV with 25–35 setae, about 100 long.
MALE (2 paratypes, Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 ). Body, including gnathosoma, 360–365 long and about 320 wide. Gnathosoma about 80 long and 120 wide. Palp about 40 long and 45 wide. Palpalae pectinate, subequal, about 20 long. Setae vF about 28 long. Dorsal shield about 120 long and 125 wide. Dorsal striated idiosomal cuticle without granules. Setae vi, ve, si, se, and c2 all serrate, 45–50 long. Aedeagus about 350 long. One pair of genital setae. Leg I and II setation (solenidia in parentheses): tarsi 8(1)–7(1), tibiae 5–5, genua 3–3, femora 1–1, trochanters 1–1. Legs III with 2 segments, basal segment bearing 1 seta, apical segment bearing 5 setae. Legs IV with 1 segment bearing 4 setae.
Type material examined. Holotype female ( OSAL 0083777), 2 female ( OSAL 0 0 83775, 0083776) and 2 male paratypes ( OSAL 0 0 83778, 0083779) from Manorina flavigula (Gould) ( Passeriformes : Meliphagidae ) [in skin], AUSTRALIA: Western Australia, Mount Hart, 17.02°S 125.07°E (GEONet), 10 September 1976, coll. F.S. Lukoschus.
Additional material examined. Seven females ( OSAL 0083761-0083767) from Certhionyx pectoralis ( Passeriformes : Meliphagidae ) (Gould) [in skin], AUSTRALIA: Western Australia, Kimberley Plateau, Beverley Springs, 16°S 126°E (GEONet), 22 September 1976, coll. F.S. Lukoschus.
Holotype deposition. OSAL.
Etymology. The species name is dedicated to the well-known late acarologist, Prof. F.S. Lukoschus ( Netherlands) in recognition of his efforts in the collection of harpirhynchid mites.
