Taxonomy. Cerradomys akroai Bonvicino, Casado & Weksler, 2014 , near Porto Franco Hydroelectric Dam, Novo Jardim municipality, Tocantins, Brazil.
Cerradomys akroai is sister to C. scotti . Monotypic.
Distribution. Known only from the type locality in C Brazil. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body 111-140 mm, tail 149-162 mm, hindfoot 24— 32 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Dorsum of the Akroa Rice Ratis olive-gray, grizzled with yellow, similar to head color. Venteris yellowish,slightly grayish, with hairs having gray bases and yellowbuff tips. Mystacial vibrissae are long but not surpassing ears. Tail is long and bicolored on proximal one-half. Hindfeet are small and entirely covered by white hair. Skull is moderately small (greatest skull length 31:6-39-6 mm). Palate is long and wide, with complex postero-lateral palatal pits recessed in moderately deep palatal fossae. Mesopterygoid fossa is perforated by long and wide sphenopalatine vacuities through presphenoid and only slightly on basisphenoid. Alisphenoid strut is present. Incisors are opisthodont, and molars are pentalophodont, with mesoloph fused to paracone and mesolophid fused to entoconid. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 60, FN = 74.
Habitat. Open habitats of Cerrado, as “campo limpo” (grasslands), “campo sujo,” and “campo cerrado” (grasslands mixed with shrubs and shrublands, respectively).
