( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 )

Type. 1 ♀ " Cheloninae C.V. Hemmingsen , 26-2-1965 " (SMN).

Diagnosis. The species P. brevivena can be differentiated from all other Phanerotomini by the absence of clypeal teeth, the absence of cu1b, the number of antennomeres (25), and the only partially sclerotised SR-1 vein.

Description. Body measurements. Length of body 3.1 mm; ratio of length of fore wing to body 0.8; ratio of length of metasoma to mesosoma 1.3.

Head. Antenna with 25 antennomeres; ratio of length of third antennomere to fourth 1.2; ratio of length of third, fourth, penultimate and ultimate antennomere 3.0×, 3.0×, 1.5×, and 2.0× their width, respectively; ratio of width of face in anterior view to its height 2.4; ratio of width of clypeus to its height 2.2; clypeus without teeth.

Mesosoma. Ratio of height of mesosoma to its length 0.7; propodeal tubercles absent; propodeum rugose without carinae; ratio of length of fore tibia to fore tarsus 0.8; ratio of fore tibia and fore tarsus 8.0 and 30.0 × their width, respectively; ratio of length of mid tibia to mid tarsus 0.9; ratio of mid femur, mid tibia, and mid tarsus 4.5×, 13.4×, and 24.3× their width, respectively; bulge on mid tibia absent; ratio of length of hind tibia to hind tarsus 0.9; ratio of hind coxa, hind femur, hind tibia, and hind tarsus 2.2×, 3.5×, 7.5× and 16.0× their width, respectively; fore wing: 2-R1 absent; ratio of length of 1-R1 to length of pterostigma 1.3; ratio of width of pterostigma to its length 3.3; ratio r:3-SR:SR-1 1.0:8.0:7.5; SR-1 short, not fully sclerotised; 1-SR+M emanating from base of parastigma; 2- SR+M postfurcal; 1-M postfurcal.

Metasoma. Shape of metasoma oval elongate in dorsal view; shape of metasomal carapace flat in lateral view; ratio of length metasoma to its width 2.5; ratio of the three metasomal tergites 1.0:0.9:1.1; tergites longitudinally strigose; posterior end of carapace round.

Colour. Body reddish to brownish, tegula black.

Etymology. The species name reflects the short SR-1 vein of the specimen.
