Type species, Filistata hibernalis Hentz, 1842 .
Diagnosis. This genus belongs to the Filistatinae and differ from other Neotropical filistatids by great size (7–25 mm), calamistrum with setae on the sulcated area, conspicuous fovea, tarsal spines, and male palp with elongated tibiae and cymbium not fused to the tegulum ( Ramírez & Grismado 1997; 2008).
