Material examined: Holotype, male. Pinned specimen, with flattened terminalia and one wing mounted in a separate microscopic slide. Allotype, female. Pinned specimen, with flattened head mounted in a separate microscopic slide. Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Teresópolis. 1000 meters. October, 1942. Lauro Travassos Filho. USNM.

Color. As described by Alexander (1948). Head ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 ­ 7 ). Rostrum length, 4.4 mm in male, 3.52 mm in female; antennae broken in the holotype, missing in allotype; maxillary palpus missing in holotype and allotype; head capsule length / width, 0.70 / 0.60 mm in male, 0.88 / 0.76 mm in female. Thorax (figs. 6, 8, and 9). Thorax length / height, 2.02 / 1.66 mm in male, 2.04 / 1.76 mm in female; a very conspicuous protuberance at anterovental corner of laterotergite; tibial spurs present. Wing ( Figs. 7 View FIGURES 5 ­ 7 and 11 View FIGURES 11 ­ 12 ). Wing length / width, 8.0 / 1.98 mm in male, 8.91/ 2.11mm in female; discal cell ca. 2.0 times longer than wide in male, 1.7 times in female; Sc­r before mid­point between origin of Rs and tip of R1; m­cu just before discal cell mid­length; A1 ca. 1.5 times longer than A2. Abdomen. Abdomen length, 4.33 mm in male, 6.88 mm in female. Male terminalia ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 ). Gonocoxite length / maximum width, 0.57 / 0.33 mm; gonocoxite enlarged at mid length by a inner triangular projection, with longest hairs at distal and lateral borders; gonostylus slightly subterminal; inner gonostylus length, 0.26 mm; inner gonostylus curved at tip; outer gonostylus length, 0.22 mm; aedeagus short; interbase strongly curved, blade­like. Female terminalia ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 11 ­ 12 ). Tergite 9 narrow; tergite 10 large, avoid, with very conspicuous triangular protuberances near base of each cercus; hipogynial valves and cerci narrow, similar in length.
