Phymatodes grandis Casey View in CoL , NEW STATUS

(Fig. 13)

Callidium obscurum LeConte, 1859:79 View in CoL (nec Callidium obscurum Fabricius, 1787 View in CoL ). Type locality: Tejon, California, USA. MCZC

Phymatodes obscurus, Leng, 1884:100 View in CoL .

Phymatodes grandis Casey, 1912:277 View in CoL . Type locality: San Diego, California, USA. USNM

Phymatodes lecontei Linsley, 1938:109 View in CoL (replacement name). CASC NEW SYNONYMY

Linsley (1938) replaced the preoccupied name Callidium obscurum LeConte View in CoL with P. lecontei View in CoL , however, Casey’s P. grandis View in CoL has priority over Linsley’s action. Thus, Casey’s name must take priority. Two specimens in the EMEC collection from the Hualapai Mountains, Mohave County, Arizona appear to be the first record of P. grandis View in CoL for that state (see Lewis 1979).

Specimens examined: 257, including the types of P. grandis and C. obscurum
