Genus Garudinia Moore, 1882: 59

Type species: Tospitis latana Walker, 1863 (by original designation) (Type locality: Ceylon [ Sri Lanka])

Taxonomic note: The genus comprises 14 species distributed throughout the Oriental tropics including Indo-Burmese and Sundaland hotspot regions to the Philippines, with maximum diversity from the Borneo ( Holloway 2001). From India, five species of Garudinia are hitherto known with only one species, G. simulana ( Walker, 1863) from the Great Nicobar Island ( Arora & Singh 1975, Singh et al. 2021e). Externally, the genus Garudinia closely resembles Padenia Moore, 1882 and shares the similar looking forewing pattern comprising whitish or ochreous ground colour with two blackish-brown bands on it, and marginally excised hindwing in males. However, Garudinia has broader bands with often basal or subbasal bands not touching the costa of forewing and the hindwing is mostly shaded with grey or fuscous. The androconial patches in males of Padenia are restricted to the hindwing costa, whereas, in Garudinia , they are found in the cell of forewing and sometimes in the cell and near the apex of hindwing as in G. simulana species group. In male genitalia, Garudinia is clearly distinct by the presence of a typical short, slender and curved distal part to the well-developed saccular process of the valva.
