comb. nov.

Cryptalaus nigrimaculatus ( Punam, Vats & Saini, 1996) comb. nov.

Chalcolepis nigrimaculatus Punam, Vats & Saini, 1996: 65 (original description; type locality: Jatinga , Dima Hasao district, Assam, India).

Distribution. INDIA: Assam.

Remarks. The genus Chalcolepis Candèze, 1857 is distributed in the Neotropics and the morphological characters mentioned in the original description of this species do not corroborate with this American genus ( Casari 2008). Based on the original description ( Punam, Vats & Saini 1996: 65), the species is transferred to the genus Cryptalaus , and we propose Cryptalaus nigrimaculatus ( Punam, Vats & Saini, 1996) comb. nov. This species resembles Cryptalaus assamensis (Schwarz, 1902) in morphological characters and pronotum illustration (see Punam, Vats & Saini 1996; Parekar & Patwardhan 2021). The examination of the type of C. nigrimaculatus in future may reveal if these two species are conspecific or congeneric.
