Ampedus furunculus Sarkar, Saha, Raychaudhuri, 2015: 126 (nomen nudum; published without description, unavailable name; ICZN 1999, Art. 13).

Ampedus furunculus Sarkar, Saha & Raychaudhuri, 2016: 2 (original description; type locality: Rajabhatkhawa , Alipurduar district, West Bengal, India).

Distribution. INDIA: West Bengal.

Remarks. The morphological characters mentioned in the original description of this species are different than those of the genus Ampedus Dejean, 1833 ( Schimmel 1993). Based on the original description, dorsal habitus, illustrations and photograph of the male genitalia ( Sarkar et al. 2016: 2–3; Fig. 1 , 6–8 ), it is clear that this species should be transferred to the genus Cryptalaus . Additionally, we also examined the photographs of the holotype of this species shared with AP by one of the authors of this species (back in 2012). Therefore, we propose Cryptalaus furunculus ( Sarkar, Saha & Raychaudhuri, 2016) comb. nov. In the description, the body length and width of the holotype are given as 11.86 and 3.29 without any metric units. Surprisingly, if the scale in the illustrations ( Sarkar et al. 2016: 4; Figs 1–6 ) is traced to match with the corresponding illustration of the dorsal habitus, the body length is coming to 21 mm and width to 6 mm (assuming the metric unit is in millimetres).
