Trees or shrubs 1–10 m tall. Petioles 0.5–2.5 cm long; blades 4–16 × 2–6 cm, subcoriaceous to firmly membranaceous, obovates to elliptics, base cuneate, apex short apiculate or acuminate, margin slightly undulate, glabrous on both sides. Inflorescence 5–10 flowers, peduncle 0.5–2.5 cm long; bracts 1–2 mm long, ovate, scarious; pedicels 0.5–2 cm long; sepals equal, 1–3 mm long, ovate, obtuse to acute, inconspicuous venation; corolla hypocrateriform, white or yellowish white, tube (0.8)1–1.8 × 0.15–0.3 cm, not twisted around the anthers, stamina ridges absent, suprastaminal corona of five bilobed callus, sometimes very reduced, opposite the anthers, in the throat of the tube, lobes 1.5–2 × 0.5–0.9 cm, obovate to elliptical; stamens inserted at the apex of the corolla tube, anthers 3–4 mm long, exserted, blue-green; pistil 0.7–1.6 cm long, nectary present. Follicles 4–7.5 × 1–2 cm, fusiform to ellipsoid, apiculate, with 2 lateral ridges, ligneous, not lenticellate, glabrous; seeds 6–8 cm long.
Habitat and phenology:—Tropical deciduous forest, evergreen forest, and secondary vegetation, with an altitudinal range from 0–850 m a.s.l. Flowering and fruiting nearly throughout the year.
Distribution: — Mexico (Campeche, Chiapas, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Estado de Mexico ( Leeuwenberg 1994), Michoacán, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa and Tabasco, Fig. 6b View FIGURE 6 ), Central America and northern South America in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
Conservation status: —Least concern (LC). Tabernaemontana amygdalifolia is widely distributed in Mexico, growing in several vegetation types, elevations, and numerous protected areas, and individuals yield flowers and fruits year-round. The species seems to tolerate disturbance, as it can be found growing in secondary vegetation and on roadsides. Its distribution area comprises an EOO of 1,349,570 km 2 and AOO of 512 km 2, which is the largest predicted area of the species analyzed ( Table 3). We conclude that it is not under threat.

Notes: — Tabernaemontana amygdalifolia is quite variable in flower size. It is similar to T. citrifolia ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ), both with stamens clearly exerted and podlike fruits, but differs by the presence of suprastaminal corolline corona of five small bilobed callus opposite the anthers (see Leeuwenberg 1994).
