Spogostylum griseipenne ( Macquart, 1850) View in CoL

Exoprosopa griseipennis Macquart, 1850: 408 ( Egypt) View in CoL

Argyramoeba ocyalis (Wiedemann) , François, 1972: 21 ( Mauritania) Spogostylum sordidum Sack, Greathead, 1980:230 View in CoL ( Saudi Arabia males) Spogostylum ocyale (Wiedemann) View in CoL , Zaitzev, 1997: 911 ( Israel)

Theodor (1983: Figs 598599) drew attention to the existence of a second species near S. ocyale View in CoL with different genitalia. Zaitzev (1977) disagreed and designated this species as S. ocyale View in CoL . It had first been illustrated by François (1972: Figs 4142) who noted that the male genitalia were different to those illustrated for S. ocyale View in CoL by Greathead (1967: Fig. 50) and also provided a figure of the wing ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 3 6 ). Greathead (1980b: Fig. 19) illustrated the male genitalia as those of S. sordidum View in CoL .

Diagnosis. Sides of interradial vein with a dark infuscation. Male with aedeagus longer and widened at the apex ( Theodor, 1983: François, 1972: Fig. 41; Fig. 598: Greathead, 1980b: Fig. 19, as S. sordidum ). Female with spermathecal bulb almost spherical ( Theodor, 1983: Fig. 597). Specimens tend towards the dark end of the range of coloration.

Distribution. Afrotropical: Mauritania ( François, 1972), Niger. Palaearctic: Egypt, Iraq, Libya, ‘Palestine’, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates.
