Latrunculia rugosa ( Vacelet, 1969) View in CoL
Latrunculia rugosa ( Vacelet, 1969) View in CoL was originally described as Microstylifer rugosus Vacelet, 1969 but is currently considered to be a valid species of Latrunculia View in CoL in the World Porifera Database, although it bears little resemblance to any member of the family in terms of the spiculation and skeleton (Samaai & Kelly 2002). While anisodiscorhabds were found in the slide, they were considered by Vacelet (1969) to be artefacts. In his reexamination of the holotype and other material in 2014, Vacelet (pers. comm.) found rare spirosigmata, sometimes with a central swelling and 10–12.5 µm diameter. He concluded that the species is most likely in Rhabderemiidae Topsent, 1928 but distinct from Rhabderemia Topsent, 1890 by the fact that the styles are straight and rugose. The opinion of Samaai & Kelly (2002), which was that the species is not of Latrunculiidae View in CoL , but Poecilosclerida View in CoL incertae sedis , is upheld here ( Table 9 View TABLE 9 ).
