Eugenia cerrocacaoensis is an endemic species of the region known as Mesoamerica that covers the Mexican states of the Southeast and Costa Rica ( WCSP 2020). In Mexico, two collections were recorded only in the state of Oaxaca, which occur in an area with good conservation status, with the collection zone not having a decline in the observed habitat and there are no obvious threats ( CONABIO 2018). In the case of Costa Rica, the specimen collected in the Guanacaste National Park at an altitude of 1000 m, the area is heavily wooded and preserved. The biome of occurrence is the Humid Tropical Forest. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the threshold for a threatened category under criterion B, whilst the estimated area of occupancy (AOO) falls into the Endangered category. However, the area of occupancy (AOO) is considered underestimated due to the area of habitat available. At present, Eugenia cerrocacaoensis is classified as Least Concern (LC).
Specimens examined:— MEXICO. Oaxaca: Velasco & Cruz 1337 (MEXU!). Costa Rica: Alfaro Vindas 92 (MO).
