On Cerro Pirre, this species can be confused with Anthurium scandens subsp. pusillum Scheffer and A. obtu- sum (Engl.) Grayum, but both differs mainly in having fibrous and persistent cataphylls.

Distribution and ecology. Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama. This species ocurrs in the submontane and montane forests of Cerro Pirre, generally in places above 800 m. It is relatively common in shaded or semishaded areas.
