Atractides Koch, 1836 View in CoL

Diagnosis. Character states as given for the family (Martin 2006). Differential characters to separate Atractides from Hygrobates: Setae V 1 located on the excretory pore plate; on the gnathosomal base, setae Hy2 shorter than Hy1; P1 fused with P2; chela with one tooth.

Remarks. Up to now no clear larval characters have been found to separate the subgenera within the genus. All species mentioned here belong to the subgenus Atractides , which includes roughly 50 species in the Western Palaearctic and is almost completely restricted to streams (including the hyporheic interstitial zone) and springs ( Gerecke 2003).
