Type locality: Hindostan [ India] .
Distribution in India: Assam ( Hampson 1919). Global records: Indian endemic.
Remarks: Sphecia fixseni Leech [1889] , described from Japan has been treated as a junior synonym of P. contracta described from Hindustan [ India] by most of the authors including Hampson (1919), thus extending the distribution range of P. contracta upto Japan. However, Arita (1992) stated that the two taxa are undoubtedly distinct species, and revived the species staus of P. fixeni thus delimiting the distributional ranges of both the species.
