Material examined. TANZANIA: Holotype [unsexed], " Zanzibar, Raffray " ( MNHN) . KENYA: 1 ♀ — " Kenya, Turtle Bay, | 4.III.76, Renner ” (cDW); 1 ♀ — “ Kenya, Meru distr. | Materi (Mitunguu) | 800m, 12.11.1 988 | Gianasso lgt." (cPB).

Diagnosis. Among all known small sized taxa that have dense punctation on the head and pronotum, S. zonata has widest pronotum ( Fig. 13 ). Length 4.0– 4.5 mm. Yellowish red-brown, elytra with brown, diffused sutural spot on 1–5 intervals behind middle.

Description. Head deeply and irregularly punctate, with punctures separated by 1–3 their diameters. Head and clypeus with strong, almost isodiametric microsculpture throughout. Eyes large and bulging.

Pronotum 1.3 times as wide as head, 1.37–1.45 times as wide as long, widest behind marginal setae. Anterior margin straight, anterior angles effaced, sides regularly, broadly rounded, not sinuate before posterior angles, which are rectangular. Disc densely, uniformly and deeply punctate, punctures separated by 1 their diameters. Lateral margin flat, rapidly widened basad lateral setae. Basal grooves indistinct, flat. Microsculpture strong, irregular.

Elytra subovate, 1.3–1.45 times as long as wide, with polygonal microsculpture. Striae deep, slightly crenulate. Intervals slightly convex on basal half.

Claws with 4 teeth. Abdominal smooth, shiny, with few tiny setae. Propleuron almost smooth near coxae, mes- and metepisterna smooth.

Aedeagus not studied.

Distribution. Species described from Mombasa ( Kenya). Kenya, Tanzania ( Fig. 34).
