Breuning (1943) described Tucumaniella in Apomecynini to include T. brevipes , a species from Tucumán ( Argentina). Except for Breuning (1971), the species has been reported only in catalogs and checklists and was never illustrated. Isabelle Z̧rcher-Pfander (NHMB) kindly sent us photographs of the holotype ( Figs 37–41 ), which allowed us to recognize that the species is C. volvula . Thus, Tucumaniella is a junior synonym of Cacostola , a genus of Onciderini, and not Apomecynini . According to Breuning (1943) the holotype of T. brevipes is a male. However, it is actually a female.

Currently, C. volvula is known from French Guiana, Brazil (Rondônia, Maranh„o, Ceará, Bahia, Piauí, Espírito Santo), Bolivia (Beni, Cochabamba, Pando, Santa Cruz), and Paraguay ( Monné 2022b; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2022).
