Jarmilaia zetteli n. sp.

( Fig. 3,6,10, 11–13; photo 7,8)

Material examined. Holotype ♂: Madagascar / Ile St. Marie / Forêt Ikalalao / 24–25 X 1995 Heiss; paratypes 1♂ 1♀ collected with holotype.

Diagnosis. Closely related to rabitschi n. sp. but is distinguished from the latter by its larger size and wider abdomen, by the lateral margins of deltg VI diverging posteriorly (subparallel in rabitschi ) and in the female by the triangular deltg VII longer than the paratergites VIII.. From aeterna it differs by the nearly straight lateral margins of deltg II–VI, by the less sinuate and finely dentate lateral margins of the pronotum, and in the female by the triangular projection of deltg VII longer than paratergites VIII.

Description. Holotype ♂, macropterous; general habitus, colouration, and body structures and appendages as of rabitschi n. sp.; the description therefore refers mainly to characters differing from the latter.

Head: As wide as long (18/18); antennae 3.55 x as long as width of head (64/18); segment I thickest and beset with stiff bristles and 2.57x as long as II, this shortest, III longest, IV fusiform; length of antennal segments I/II/III/ IV = 18/7/30/9.

Pronotum: About 1.65x as wide as long (38/23); lateral margins beset with fine tubercles bearing short bristles; anterolateral angles deeply incised before the ring-like collar; scale like structures of disk arranged in rows and circles as in rabitschi n. sp.

Scutellum: Wider than long (20/18), disk with scattered round flat scales along basal and lateral margins.

Abdomen: Lateral margins of deltg II–VI straight, that of deltg VI diverging posteriorly its pe-angle rectangular; angle between posterior margin of deltg VI and lateral margin of deltg VII nearly rectangular; deltg VII triangularly produced posteriorly with blackish margin; venter with distinct metathoracic scent gland canal; spiracles II–V ventral, VI–VIII lateral and visible from above.

PHOTOS 7–12. 7― Jarmilaia zetteli n. sp., holotype ♂ ( Ile St. Marie); 8― ditto paratype ♀; 9― Parabergrothista mollis ♂ (Périnet) ; 10― Parabergrothista secunda n. sp., holotype ♂ (Périnet); 11―ditto ventral; 12― Parabergrothista mollis ♂ (Périnet) , ventral .

Hemelytra: Fully developed covering the tergal plate; lateral margin with a blackish spot medially.

Genitalic structures: Pygophore wider than long with a dorsal posteriorly produced conical ridge; paratergites VIII clavate reaching about ½ of pygophore; parameres as figs. 11–13.

Female: Basically as male but angle between posterior margin of deltg VI and lateral margin of deltg VII widely rounded (fig.10); deltg VII triangularly produced posteriorly distinctly longer than paratergites VII and truncate tergites IX+X.

Measurements. Holotype ♂: Length 6.7mm; width of abdomen across tergite V 56, VI 57; paratype ♀: length 6.5 mm; head length / width 19/18; pronotum l/w 23/38; scutellum l/w 19/20; length of antennal segments I/II/III/ IV = 18/7/30/9.5; ratio length of antennae / width of head 3.58; width of abdomen across tergite V 59, VI 60

Etymology. Dedicated to my friend and eminent heteropterologist Dr. Herbert Zettel (Natural History Museum Vienna) recognizing his outstanding work on aquatic Heteroptera .

Distribution and ecology. Also this species was recorded only on St.Marie island in a very reduced stretch of primary rainforest, which suffers from extensive logging and will possibly soon disappear. Found by sifting leaf litter.
