Material examined. Holotype ♂: Ambanja / Madagascar / Mus. Praha // Holotypus / Jarmilaia / aeterna / gen. et sp. n. ♂ / det. L. Hoberlandt 1952 (red label) // Inv. 1429 / Mus. Nat. Pragae. Deposited in the National Museum of Natural History, Department of Entomology, Prague, Czech Republic. The type specimen is damaged in pronotum and pygophore.

1♂ Madagascar / Périnet rainforest res. / (Andasibe) 6 X 2000 / Heiss & Perner // ; 2♀♀ Madagascar / Ranomafana Nat. Res. / 15 XII 2004 R. Dolin ; 3♀♀ Madagascar / Périnet rainforest res. / (Andasibe) under logs / III 2001 local collector .

Description. Hoberlandt 1957 gave a very detailed description, thus only measurements of the examined specimens are added here. He mentions also the “metathoracic scent gland canals placed behind the middle coxae.” As the presence of distinct scent gland canals was recognized by Usinger & Matsuda (1959) as a basic character for Mezirinae which they then used for the key distinguishing the subfamilies Mezirinae from Carventinae , Jarmilaia belongs to and is therefore transferred to the subfamily Mezirinae .

Jarmilaia aeterna is the largest species of the genus and distinguished from both new species described below by the different shape of pronotum, the roundedly protruding pe-angles of deltg II–VI, and the bicoloured legs with a paler ring at the middle of the femora and on the basal half of the tibiae. In aeterna spiracle V is sublateral and slightly visible from above; its position in both other species is ventral.

Measurements. ♂ from Pèrinet: Length 6.4 mm; head length / width 18/17; pronotum l/w 22/39; scutellum l/ w 17/20, length of antennal segment I/II/III/IV = 16/7/27/15, ratio length of antennae / width of head 3.82; width of abdomen across tergite V 60. ♀♀ from Ranomafana and Andasibe: Length 6.9, 7.1 mm; head l/w 21/19, 21/18; pronotum l/w 24/45, 24/44; scutellum l/w 21/22, 23/23; length of antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 17/8/29/15, 18/9/ 31/16; ratio length of antennae / width of head 3.63, 4.1; width of abdomen across tergite V 70, 71.

Distribution. To date only known from the type locality Ambanja (Eastern Madagascar), Ranomafana and Pèrinet (Andasibe) rainforest Nature Reserves of eastern Madagascan mountain range.
