Type species: Jarmilaia aeterna Hoberlandt 1957

Diagnosis. Medium-sized macropterous species; separated from other Madagascan Mezirinae by a set of characters, e.g., body elongate, subparallel or slightly rounded laterally; surface with characteristic scattered round flat scales; antennae long and slender; stridulation structure absent.

Description. The original description by Hoberlandt is very detailed; therefore only a short redescription with some additional data is given.

Macropterous, of medium size (5–7 mm); dorsal body surface except membrane covered by scattered round flat scales; colouration ochraceous to brown with darker markings on deltg’s and membrane, scutellum with a black apex.

Head: About as long as wide, antenniferous lobes acute, genae with acute apex slightly longer than clypeus; antennae more than 3x as long as width of head, segment I thickest, III longest, postocular lobes emarginate and wider than eyes; rostrum arising from a slit-like atrium, shorter than head.

Pronotum: Trapezoidal, flat, lateral margins sinuate converging anteriorly.

Scutellum: About as long as wide with a median longitudinal carina.

Abdomen: Elongate oval, truncate posteriorly, lateral margins of deltg straight or with pe-angles roundedly produced. Venter without stridulatory structures; metathoracic scent gland canals distinct; spiracles II–IV ventral, V ventral or sublateral then hardly visible from above, VI–VIII lateral and visible from above.
