Type species: Terebella reticulata Ehlers, 1887 , by original designation.

Diagnosis: Branchiae in segments 2–4; eyespots absent; lateral lappets absent; ventral shields from segment 2; 17 pairs of notopodia from segment 4, chaetae distally denticulate, sometimes twisted; neuropodia from segment 5, uncini avicular in single rows on segments 5–10; in double intercalating rows, arranged back to back, until segment 20; thereafter in single rows.

Remarks: After the description of Terebella reticulata by Ehlers (1887), from Florida, Chamberlin (1919b) described Scionides dux from California. Nevertheless, Banse (1980) synonymized the latter species with Neoamphitrite robusta Johnson, 1901 . Thus, only one species in the genus remains valid, which comes from the Grand Caribbean region.
