Herophydrus reticulatus Pederzani & Rocchi, 2009 View in CoL

Herophydrus reticulatus Pederzani & Rocchi, 2009: 84 View in CoL was transferred to genus Hygrotus View in CoL subgenus Hygrotus View in CoL (s. str.) by Villastrigo et al. (2017b). Thus, this name became a junior secondary homonym of Hygrotus (s. str.) reticulatus (Fabricius, 1792: 200) View in CoL which was originally published in the binomen Dytiscus reticulatus View in CoL and is accepted since long as subjective junior synonym of Hygrotus View in CoL (s. str.) versicolor ( Schaller, 1783).

Since no synonym of reticulatus Pederzani & Rocchi View in CoL exists, the name must be substituted by a new replacement name. This is why I hereby substitute the invalid name Hygrotus (s. str.) reticulatus ( Pederzani & Rocchi, 2009) View in CoL by the new replacement name Hygrotus View in CoL (s. str.) laticollis nom. nov. The new specific name is an adjective in the nominative singular and relates to the broad pronotum of the species.

Notes: Thanks are due to the authors of Herophydrus reticulatus, Fernando Pederzani (Ravenna, Italy) and Saverio Rocchi (Florence, Italy), for agreeing in the substitution name being published here
