Type species
Nyctiprogne leucopyga (Spix, 1825) .
Definition
The clade containing N. leucopyga and all species that share a more recent common ancestor with N. leucopyga than with Hydropsalis albicauda , H. anomalus , H. candicans , H. cayennensis , H. climacocerca , H. decussatus , H. forcipata , H. heterurus , H. longirostris , H. lyra , H. maculicaudus , H. parvulus , H. roraimae , H. ruficervix , H. segmentata , H. torquata , H. whitelyi , Lurocalis rufiventris , L. semitorquatus , Nyctidromus albicollis , N. anthonyi , N. derbyanus , N. hirundinaceus , N. merrilli , and N. nigrescens , or with species in other nightjar genera such as Antrostomus , Caprimulgus , Chordeiles , Eurostopodus , Gactornis , Lyncornis , Macrodipteryx , Nyctiphrynus , Phalaenoptilus , Podager , Siphonorhis , or Veles .
Included species
Nyctiprogne latifascia ( Friedmann, 1945) , Nyctiprogne leucopyga (Spix, 1825) View in CoL , and Nyctiprogne vielliardi (Lencioni-Neto, 1994) View in CoL .
Comments
Genetic evidence supports the placement of Chordeiles vielliardi in Nyctiprogne , as suggested by Whitney et al. (2003). This study also provides evidence for the elevation of N. leucopyga latifascia to full phylogenetic species status as N. latifascia ( Fig. 6 View Figure 6 ), which is in agreement with Friedmann (1945), based on his observations of its morphology and vocalizations.
