Ololaelaps obovata ( Womersley, 1960)

Pristolaelaps obovata Womersley, 1960: 33 .

Material examined. Female holotype of Ololaelaps obovata (lablled as: ARA 7314, J11520 View Materials -HT, Pristolaelaps obovata . Holotype, Loc. Koroit, Victoria., 12.8.35, R.T.M.P.) deposited in South Australian Museum, Adelaide, examined.

Notes. Ololaelaps obovata was only briefly described as Pristolaelaps obovata by Womersley (1960) from Victoria, Australia, and has not been examined or included in any other studies. Unfortunately, the holotype is damaged, useless for observation, and is in very poor condition. It was examined by one of us ( EB).

Diagnosis. Female holotype with dorsal shield 733 µm long and 559 µm wide (length/width ratio: 1.30). Dorsal shield setae mostly difficult to see, marginal setae appear 27 µm long. Sternal shield 101 µm long, 129 µm wide (length/width ratio: 0.78), setae long enough to reach next posterior seta, St2 inserted well inside the edges of shield. Genitiventrianal shield 396 µm long and 317 µm wide (length/width ratio: 1.25), with five pairs of pre-anal setae, with faint scale-like pattern. Peritreme long, reaching anteriorly to coxa I, poststigmatal section of peritrematal shield level with posterior margin of coxa IV. Palptarsal claw three-tined. Length legs I–IV: 520 µm, 391 µm, 371 µm, 485 µm, respectively. Unfortunately the setae on the dorsal shield and most other characters are unsuitable for examination and will require remounting for study.
