Description. Size. Length of pronotum in male 2.11–2.27 (2.2 mean) mm, in female 2.43–2.59 (2.52 mean) mm.

Male structures. T7 with slightly produced latero-posterior corners ( Figs. 14D View Fig , 15 View Fig A–C). Glandular pit transversely oval, large, occupying at least half of the breadth of the tergite, partly bipartite by a longitudinal ridge arising from the posterior wall of the pit towards anteriorly. Pit opening (arrows in Figs. 15C View Fig ) anteriorly and posteriorly with a sharp edge, posterior wall steep, below the edge on both sides often with a shallow posterior excavation ( Figs. 15C View Fig , 16J); lateral walls gradually ascending and smoothly passing over to the tergite surface, opening, therefore, laterally not clearly delimited. Lobes of the pouch very long, considerably longer than T7, flat, strongly narrowed towards the tip, almost unsclerotized ( Fig. 15A View Fig ). Glandular pores present laterally on T2–5 ( Figs. 15D, E View Fig ), in very small numbers only or none on T6, none on T7 and following tergites.

Colouration. Male. Thoracal nota with broad transparent margins, body otherwise almost completely dark brown, antennae and legs usually less dark, upper part of face often reddish ( Figs. 14 View Fig A–H, M). Among the numerous specimens studied one male was found with unusually light colouration ( Fig. 15I View Fig ); the structure of the T7 gland leaves no doubt about its affiliation to Dz. algerica . Female. Predominantly yellowish, thoracal nota with dispersed small dark spots of various size, tergites anteriorly with a brown transversal stripe, posteriorly with dark spots, often larger than on the nota, but never with larger dark markings, sternites dark with yellowish lateral margins ( Figs. 14I, N, O View Fig ).

Distribution. Northern Morocco and Algeria, from the Pays Rhomara (Rif) in Morocco as far as Algier in Algeria (Figs. 29, 32).

Remarks. The strong differences in the colouration between males and females have caused a long lasting confusion with Dz. kroumiriensis , which shows a similar sex specific colouration; but males as well as females of both species differ in quite a series of characters and allow a clear identification in both sexes.
