Puparium (n = 10, 5 female, 5 male)

Elongate, outwardly emarginated at middle of anterior and posterior margins ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 ,b), 4(a)); broadest at abdominal segment II region; sexually dimorphic, female puparia being longer than the male; 1440–1590 µm long, 860–900 µm wide in female; 1080–1180 µm long, 580–690 µm wide in male.

Margin

Crenulate, a row of submarginal papillae overlapping true marginal crenulations ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 ), Figure 4 View Figure 4 (c)), 10–11 submarginal papillae in 0.1 mm. Margin not or little modified into combs at thoracic tracheal pore opening areas, but not at the caudal area.

Dorsum

Longitudinal moulting suture reaching margin and transverse moulting suture reaching submargin. Median length of cephalothorax (female 640–680 µm, male 510–650 µm) smaller than that of abdomen (female 820–870 µm, male 610–830 µm). Median length of mesothorax (female 107–120 µm, male 87–90 µm) longer than that of metathorax (female 95–100 µm, male 72–75 µm) in both male and female. Median length of abdominal segments I–VIII in female: I 67–77, II 67–80, III 75–90, IV 80–90, V 80–82, VI 77–82, VII 25– 40, VIII 65–75 µm; in male: I 55–62, II 52–57, III 62–65, IV 55–65, V 55–60, VI 57, VII 25–27, VIII 50–57 µm. Median length of abdominal segments I–VIII observed as: III>/= IV> V = VI> I> II> VIII> VII.Abdominal segment sutures prominent. A submedian pair of longitudinal rows of tubercles extending from cephalothorax to abdomen; these tubercles extend to subdorsum on anterolateral cephalothorax, mesothorax and abdominal segment I, II, V, VI and VII (posterior lateral of vasiform orifice) ( Figure 4 View Figure 4 )). Distance from posterior margin of vasiform orifice to caudal tracheal pore opening area 242–257 µm in female, 170–175 µm in male. Subdorsal and submedian area with fine setae,some hook-shaped, 15–17 µm long. Thoracic and caudal tracheal furrows absent. Geminate pores present. Pockets discontinuous.

Vasiform orifice

Circular ( Figure 4 View Figure 4 )); 40–42 µm long, 45 µm wide; operculum subcircular, completely filling the orifice and obscuring the lingula, 27–35 µm long, 35–40 µm wide. Lingula head visible through operculum, but not exposed, setose.

Venter

A pair of ventral eighth abdominal setae present mediolateral of vasiform orifice, 17– 25 µm long, 50–55 µm apart in male, 52–62 µm apart in female. Antennae reaching the base of mesothoracic legs, 95–117 µm long in female, 77–100 µm long in male. Thoracic and caudal tracheal folds not discernable. Adhesive pads and spiracles visible.

Chaetotaxy.

Twenty-one pairs of setae, as typical for Aleuromarginatus , hook-shaped ( Figure 3 View Figure 3 )), 12– 17 µm long.

Host plant

Legume vine ( Fabaceae ) with leathery compound leaves.

Material examined

Holotype ‘puparium’; West Malaysia, Selangor, Forest Research Institute, Kepong , five puparia under one cover slip (two male, three female, slide 1), on Legume vine, 15 October 2007, J.H. Martin (8383) . The female puparium first in the top row is selected as the holotype. The right-hand puparium of the first row, the middle one, and the two in the third row are paratypes (NHM).

Paratypes

Fourteen puparia on three slides (four with the holotype, four male and one female on slide 2, four male and two female on slide 3) (NHM).

Distribution

Malaysia.

Etymology

The species is named after the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), where the species was collected.

Remarks

The puparia of this species differ from all other Aleuromarginatus species in having a distinct pattern of tubercles on the cephalothorax and abdomen, circular vasiform orifice, operculum completely covering the orifice and obscuring the lingula, and from A. corbettiaformis Martin, 1985 in lacking the submarginal row of tubercles. The new species also differs from the genus Corbettia and from other Aleuromarginatus in that the operculum completely covers the orifice and the lingula is obscured, but distribution of most of the dorsal setae is the same as for other Aleuromarginatus species , thus supporting its generic placement.
